Thin Lizzy guitarist Gary Moore dead at 58

Few details have been released at this point regarding the death of Gary Moore.  His manager announced only that Moore was found dead at a hotel on Spain’s Costa del Sol, where he was vacationing.

The official statement from the authorities is that further tests are pending but that a heart attack is the most likely cause of death.  The British tabloid The Sun, however, has printed an article quoting unnamed sources making a much more lurid claim that Moore choked to death on his own vomit while drunk.  (Given The Sun’s journalistic reputation, it’s not hard to understand that fans are taking the story with a grain of salt. And a few obscenities.)

Moore had been on the scene since the 1960s.  He’s worked with some of the greatest artists around, and is recognized as an influence by even more.  Despite his track record and his incredible talent, he’s probably not as much of a household name as he deserves.

But it would be hard to find a rock fan that doesn’t know this song.
